AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The Quran Museum in the Hira Cultural District in Mecca has officially entered the Guinness World Records after unveiling what it describes as the world’s largest handwritten Quran.
The monumental manuscript measures 312 centimeters in length and 220 centimeters in width and comprises a total of 700 pages. Museum officials said the work has been formally recognized by Guinness as the largest handwritten Quran in the world.
The exhibited version is an artistic, large-scale reproduction of a historic Quran dating back to the 10th century AH (16th century CE). The original manuscript, measuring 45 by 30 centimeters, is regarded as a masterpiece of Islamic art.
The original Quran was primarily transcribed in Thuluth script, with Surah Al-Fatiha written in Naskh script. It is also adorned with intricate illumination, elaborate decorative motifs and sun-shaped designs, reflecting the artistic excellence of the period.
According to published information, the historic manuscript was registered as a religious endowment (waqf) in 1300 AH (1883 CE) and is currently preserved at the King Abdulaziz Public Library endowment complex in Saudi Arabia.
